Abstract

The present work was conducted to assess the physico-chemical parameters of Michika mini dam, Adamawa state, Nigeria and determine its suitability for domestic and agricultural usage. Water samples were collected fortnightly for six months from three sampling sites and analyzed for various physico-chemical parameters. The study indicated that the mean value of studied parameters of the water samples were within the permissible limit of WHO for drinking water. The findings also showed the mean value of studied parameters were within the permissible limit of Federal Ministry of Environment. Therefore, the dam water was found to be fit for aquaculture but need adequate treatment before these water sources are consumed in order to avoid epidemic of water related diseases. The results obtained from the research work indicated low level of pollution. Physiochemical parameters for the three stations sampled determined the rate of pollution in the different stations. From the calculated results, it was observed that the water has a good self-purification ability. Hence aquatic animals will survive and grow very well in the river.
