Contributions of SME Owners in Achieving Business Growth: A Case Study of Some SMEs in Abuja, Nigeria

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a significant role in most economies around the world most especially in developing countries as they serve as major contributors to job creation and economic development. They contribute majorly in GDP which makes them top priorities by governments around the world. According to World Bank estimates, SMEs represent not less than 50% of employment worldwide which is about 90% of businesses. It is highly important to have good SMEs managers because of the roles SMEs play in the economy so that businesses can be managed in an effective and efficient manner in order to attain growth. This study looks at impacts being played by the SME owners in achieving business growth using Abuja, Nigeria as case study. The findings from this study suggest that Nigeria government should invest more in SMEs in order to boost the economy.
