Abstract

Nowadays, the coastal region of Jeddah City must be protected against heavy metal contamination of the marine environment by using advanced treatment techniques of before discharging of wastewater to coastal areas. The surface soil layers are composed mainly of poorly graded sand and specific gravity values vary from 2.6 to 2.8 (gm/cm3). The hydraulic conductivity values of these soils nearly direct proportional with their sand content. The concentration heavy metals in surface polluted soil samples in the studied area are directly controlled by the sand fraction content especially Ni, Co and Mn species. The wastewater contaminations are higher than Saudi, WHO and FAO Standards.
