Abstract

This study investigated influence of informational justice on organizational citizenship behavior of public servants in Kenya. The effect of justice perceptions on organizational outcomes has been documented by many scholars yet the theoretical mechanisms underlying those effects are less clear. Among all justice variables research on informational justice, its relationship with organizational citizenship behaviour, and particularly in developing countries like Kenya is quite limited. Informational justice referred to the fairness of information provided to employees, its adequacy, quality, honest, and genuineness. This study hypothesized that when employees perceive information fairness, they display organizational citizenship behaviors; an organizational outcome that enable them to work beyond job requirements, compromise difficult and foster positive work climate which enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Such a relationship is based on the social exchange and organizational support theories which relies on the norm of reciprocity. The study adopted a cross-sectional research design based on deductive research approach and used quantitative descriptive research methods for data collection and analysis, to investigate the relationship. All public servants in Kenya were targeted but 375 respondents were selected using simple random sampling technique for the study. A piloted structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Data was analyzed using percentages, frequencies and means, and correlation and regression coefficients. The study found a positive and significant influence of informational justice on organizational citizenship behaviour and concluded that informational justice was an important factor in building organizational citizenship behaviour of public servants inKenya.
