The narratives on the reasons for xenophobia varies depending on the circumstance and the perspective from which the issue is addressed. It is mostly exhibited in developing nations with a large influx of foreign nationals. In recent times, Nigerians in the diaspora are the targets for xenophobia. For instance, the September, 2019 killings and looting of foreign shops in South Africa were mainly targeted at Nigerians. Earlier in 2017, four Nigerians were assaulted by a large group of people at Greater Noida, India. Yet, in relation to racism, the concept of xenophobia is still not fully understood. What then is xenophobia? This paper will answer the question. It will reveal the reasons for the increased xenophobia against Nigerians and suggest the way forward.
