Abstract

A number of countries in the world have been recording growth in their economy. Nevertheless, the speed of economic growth is not equally reflected in life of individuals in the communities. High rate of unemployment among women and youth is among critical issues to be reconsidered in order to achieve inclusive sustainable development. Statistics show that women and youth as groups represent the majority of the population of the world. While the former group represents commitment, trust, and care for members of the family, the later represents strength and confidence. This paper examines blue economy initiative as important avenue for economic emancipation of women and youth and poverty alleviation. Taking the case study of Tanzania, the authors study the position of women and youth in blue economy activities and thereafter consider awareness of blue economy, education, skills development and access to capital as important factors to achieve inclusive economic growth through wider participation of women and youth
