Abstract
Copolymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) and Acrylic acid (AA) was prepared by using hydrogen peroxide as initiator in Tetrahydrofuran medium at 450C under inert atmosphere. The copolymer (B) prepared was made to react with N, N – Diethylaminoethanol (DEAE) to form an ester (EB) through acid group of acrylic acid. Synthesized copolymer and its graft were characterized by FTIR, H1NMR and C13NMR. The antimicrobial property of these compounds was investigated by agar well diffusion method. Two grams +ve bacterial strains used were Bacillus pumillus – 1640 and Staphylococcus aureus – 3160, two grams –ve bacterial strains were Escherichia coli – 45 and Enterobacteraerogenes – 2822. The fungal strains used were Fusariumoxysporum – 2087 and Aspergillusniger – 4325.
