Heritage Consciousness and Participative Conservation; Empirical Study of Role of Local People in Heritage Conservation and Tourism Development

Abstract
Preservation of heritage monuments is one of the most debated topics of the current world. Heritage is the representation of the past and the invisible wealth of any nation. Due to several issues, developing countries could not pay much attention to the conservation of ancient heritage as the priorities change according to the time. This study focuses on the Islamic monuments of Delhi and its significance to India's heritage tourism activities. In every tourist attractions, local people have an important role as the ultimate purpose of any development activities aimed at the welfare of common people. This study is an attempt to understand the perception of local people on the importance of tourism to their livelihood, explore the heritage consciousness with educational backgrounds. The study uses exploratory research design and the data have been analyzed by using quantitative techniques.
