Progress of Secondary Education in India towards Universalisation

Abstract

Rising primary school enrolment has left governments struggling to meet the demand for secondary education in developing countries. In India due to recent significant development of Universal Elementary Education through Sarva Siksha Abhijan (SSA) The huge increase in enrolment of students and rapid growth of new technologies have led to reassessment of India's preparedness to generate required technical manpower, develop new knowledge and skills and remain competitive at global level. The S.E. and SE system has a key role to play in enabling the nation to move towards these objectives.

The Central Advisory Board of Education (2005) was assigned with the task to prepare the blueprint of Universalisation of Secondary Education as a consequent of Universalisation of Elementary Education.

This article aims to provide the overview of the progress of Universalisation of Secondary Education through different policies and schemes during the Five Year Plan Period.
