Abstract

In Nigeria, each time one reads news papers, Listen to news on radio, Watch news on television or going through the news on social media e.t.c, they speak of one crisis or the others in the country. May be Boko-Haram insurgency,

or farmers/herders clashes, or armed banditry or kidnappers that have discovered that stealing People gives money more than stealing peoples' properties e.t.c. this situation has now become unbearable and worrisome because an average Nigerian is now afraid of travelling because of kidnappers and armed banditry, those ones in their houses sleep with one eye closed, investors are running  away to the neighboring countries and new ones are scared of coming to Nigeria to come and invest because there is no adequate safety for their lives and their properties. However, many people have been putting blame on government believing that It is only the government that is faulty for the ineffective and inefficient security, forgot is our own negligence that contributed to Nigeria present security challenge. And not knowing that security is a shared business between government and citizens in which everybody has responsibility to contribute, If for nobody else, at least for himself/herself, and the community he or she resides. This paper examined the different forms of negligence on the parts of both government and citizen that contributed to Nigeria present security challenge.
