Abstract
This study was undertaken to understand the representation of women in leadership positions and to identify the challenges and barriers that may exist in the Manufacturing Organisation A, as to why women are not occupying more leadership positions. A qualitative research approach of data collection was utilised where in-depth interviews were conducted followed by the analysis of collected data. The findings revealed the dynamics within the Manufacturing Organisation A and led to the uncovering of challenges, obstacles and complexities facing females at the organisation which included gender bias and stereotype, the existence of the old boys club, work life balance, networking and mentoring inaccessibility. The research proposed recommendations on how the organisation and women should react and respond to the challenges, which included programmes, initiatives, procedures, transforming structures and work practices that support the advancement of women into leadership at the Manufacturing Organisation A.
