Causes and Effect of Tiger Mortality in Corbett Tiger Reserve, Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, India

Abstract

Tiger conservation is a big issue in India as well as around the world now a day. The tiger, Pantheratigris is a top carnivore in India. The tiger is endangered mammals because it's mortality rates has grown in India; thus the population of tiger is declined. The tiger is present lesser than 2,300 in India, according to census data of 2014 and 214 tigers are present, according Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR), census data of 2010. So the present study was designed to investigate causes and effect of tiger mortality in CTR. The most causes of death are intraspecies & interspecies fight, injured, disease, old age, accident etc., but mostly death occurred by intraspecies fight. Disturbance in carrying capacity of the area leads to mortality situation, struggle for existence is a natural phenomenon for vital needs. Theresult of that, the production new generation is affected. Such type of situation, e.g. mortality affectsthe food chain, ecological pyramid, ecosystem and genetic viability.
